Congregation of St. Mark Castell Platja D’Aro
Congregation of St. Mark Castell Platja D’Aro
Festival Date: 25-04-2015
Please note that this festival is celebrated on the weekend that is closest to 25th April. This is a traditional festival which celebrates the agricultural past of the town’s people, and takes place in the area of Fanals d’Amunt.
It is thought that the fiesta is most likely more than 150 years old, however in more modern times it can be dated back to 1985. Ever since 1987, it kicks off with the Rice Dishes competition. Cooking on gas, many local people from the area prepare rice dishes. The three best rice dishes with a prize, and all other participants receive a gift.
During the afternoon there are games for the children, children’s Sardana dancing and other entertainment.
It is believed that the origins of this Fiesta may be linked to pre-Christian times, when St Mark was asked to protect their crops against pests, insects and unkind weather.
